Strong performances gives Paffett podium in Zandvoort

Posted 20th July 2016

Gary Paffett and the Mercedes-AMG DTM Team ART gave a strong performance at the weekend in Zandvoort as Paffett took P4 and P2 in rounds 9 and 10 of the 2016 DTM season, earning him valuable points.

The weekend's racing marked the mid-point of the DTM season. Paffett and the Mercedes-AMG DTM Team ART really found their stride, as Saturday saw him take P4 in qualifying followed by P4 in the main race.

Gary commented on Saturday's race: "The car has run well so far all weekend. Fourth place in qualifying was a decent grid position for the race. I would have liked to have been on the front row, but it was still okay. It's very difficult to overtake other cars on this track, but anyways, I managed not to lose position. However, I couldn't push forwards. As things have worked out, fourth place gives me four more points and a sound basis for tomorrow."

Having won three times previously at Zandvoort, Paffett is very familiar and understandably fond of the track. with the weekend's points marking the 90th time he has scored points in 138 DTM races. Sunday's race saw Paffett take his first podium of the season, as his flawless driving and well set up car him allowed him to qualify in P2 and hold position for the main race despite the many dramas which unfolded.

Reflecting on Sunday's race, Gary commented: "This has been a great weekend for me - without a doubt the best so far this season. My car was absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, Robert and Christian dropped back or retired towards the end. Up to that point, it had been looking like a very strong team performance from us. Our car was perfectly set up. If we can get that right again in Moscow, we are in with a chance of further podium finishes. The season so far has been one of ups and downs, but the championship is still wide open and there is everything to play for."

The DTM will take a short summer break after this weekend in Zandvoort which marks the season mid-point. The next two races will take place at the Moscow Raceway, 19th-21st August.
